Where to Unlock My Little Chocobo in Final Fantasy XIV

So how do you go about unlocking a Chocobo in Final Fantasy XIV? Follow these simple steps and you’ll be able to mount your steed in no time at all.

My Little Chocobo Requirement TLDR:

  • You have to be at least Level 20.
  • You must be a member of a Grand Company.
  • Complete main story quest Hero in the Making‘.

Step One:

The first step is super simple, you’ve gotta level up. To get your own Chocobo you need to make it to level 20 in the game. There are a few different ways you can achieve this. The best way to earn a lot of experience points (XP) is to do the main missions, if it’s your first play-through this is probably the best way for you, not only do you get the XP you need but you get to experience the beautifully crafted storyline. Doing the main missions also takes you all over the in-game world so you can start to explore all the nooks and crannies available.

If you’re looking into a more passive solution however, eating food. For this any food will do. Eating gives your character a 3% xp boost for all activities. You can buy food for cheap and stock up so you can keep this buff going almost indefinitely.

There are also daily and weekly bonuses within the game that can bring you a lot of xp relatively quickly.

Step Two:

Getting to level 20 isn’t enough, you’ll also want to join one of the game’s three Grand Companies (GC). Each GC functions relatively the same so scout them out and decide who you want to join. Your choices are The Maelstrom, The Immortal Flames, and The Order of The Twin Adder.

To join a GC you have to complete main story missions. It’s not long after your first primal battle that you will get the quest ‘The Company You Keep’ which allows you to pick which GC you will belong to. After pledging allegiance to your chosen Grand Company, speak to your Grand Company Commander and you’ll get access to the quest

You’ll only need 200 company seals to purchase a Chocobo Issuance. After you get a hold of 200 seals, purchase a Chocobo Issuance from your Grand Company Quartermaster.

Don’t worry about picking one that you won’t like, you can always change it later on. You can actually change it multiple times and can get to max level in each GC.

When you’re in your chosen GC make sure you save up your company seals because they’re vital for step four.

Mount your steed.

Where to Unlock My Little Chocobo in Final Fantasy XIV – Step Three:

To get a chocobo you’re going to need the ‘My Little Chocobo’ quest from your chosen GC. To do this you need to visit a specific person for each GC.

For The Maelstrom you will need to talk to R’ashaht Rhiki. She can be found at the Limsa Lominsa upper decks in The Maelstrom Command.

For Twin Adder you will need to talk to Vorsaile Heuloix. You’ll be able to find him at New Gridania in the Acorn Orchard.

Finally for the Immortal Flames Swift Ryder is your guy. To find him you need to go to Ul’dah – The Steps of Nald and he resides in the Hall of Flames.

Step Four:

The quest in and of itself is fairly simple, you need to acquire a Chocobo issuance. This is where your GC seals come in handy, you need to trade 200 seals to your GC’s quartermaster to obtain the issuance.

Once you have your issuance you need to take it to another person depending on your GC.

For The Maelstrom this is Fraegeim. She is at the Limsa Lominsa Chocobo keep.

The Twin Adders require you to talk to Cingur. He can be found at the Gridania Aetheryte Plaza.

For the Immortal Flames you need to speak to Mimigun. He resides in Chocobokeep in the Steps of Nald.

Once you have given over your Chocobo issuance you will then be presented with your Chocobo. You’ll then need to give it a name and after you do you talk to whoever gave you the Chocobo and then boom, quest complete! Congratulations on getting your first mount in FFXIV.

The Chocobo mount is likely one of the first mounts you’ll get in FFXIV. Once acquired you can access your mount, and others you’ve collected from the menu. Just go to the Character > Mount Guide menu, where you can place your mount into your quick access hotbar.
