More than two decades after making a splash in the trading card industry, Pokémon TCG is still in mega-high demand (dare I say more than ever). Over the years, Pokémon TCG has amassed a library of booster packs that are so rare and valuable that some collectors would trade an arm and a leg for them.
These packs contain cards that are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars alone, and that’s exactly what makes them so rare and so expensive.
If you’re buying them to add to your collection as your ‘grail’ piece or buying them as an investment please ensure you do so safely to avoid being scammed out of your hard earned cash. I’d recommend you to use an intermediary to complete the transaction.
With that being said, let’s get into the article and have a look at the most expensive booster packs in existence.
The Most Expensive Pokemon Booster Packs
So, what do I consider worthy of being on the list of the most extraordinary priced booster packs you can buy?
- Sword & Shield Vivid Voltage Booster Packs
- 1st Edition Fossil Booster Box
- Skyridge Booster Box
- XY Evolutions
- 25th Celebrations Booster Packs
- 1st Edition Base Set Booster Box
With all that said, let’s take a look at 5 of these diamonds in the rough. And let’s be real, the closest any of us will ever get to these packs will be through a screen.
Sword & Shield Vivid Voltage Booster Packs
This is one of the more recent booster packs, but it’s already in super high demand. Released as part of the Sword & Shield series, the Vivid Voltage is home to many rare Pokémon cards. The most notable one, of course, is the Rainbow Rare Pikachu Gigantamax. Some of the other shiny cards like the champion Leon are also what makes this set so sought after.
Vivid Voltage packs usually retail for around $143, but even though it only became available in 2020, it’s already quite challenging to get your hands on one. If you’re a collector trying to snag one of these, I wish you the best of luck!
They’re sometimes available from Ebay and very occasionally from Amazon. Hit the buttons below to go and check the latest prices.
1st Edition Fossil Booster Box
Now we’re getting into the sell-your-car level of value in Pokémon TCG boxes. The Fossil pack was famous for the introduction of brand-new prehistoric and fossil-based Pokémon that were yet to be seen in the games. Because of this, collectors are willing to cough up a lot of money to get their hands on one of these bad boys.
If you want to add a first-edition Fossil Booster Box to your collection, you will have to pay over $10,000 for one! A single 1st Edition Fossil Booster pack will set you back over $300, again, it’s a worthy purchase.
I can see this being one of the most valuable Pokemon booster packs in the future, only time will tell. I hope it does increase, as I own one of these packs!
There are a vast number of these packs available for sale on the market. I’ve seen a few on Amazon, which has certain buyer protections. And, I’ve seen loads on Ebay. Hit the buttons below to check them out.
Skyridge Booster Box
Let’s kick things up a notch and get to the good stuff. The Skyridge Booster Box is one of the rarest and most expensive Pokémon TCG boxes out there.
What makes this pack so special (apart from the insanely cool artwork) is that nearly every card in the box can fetch a pretty penny.
This explains why the Skyridge Booster Box can go for over $30,000 on eBay! And what’s even crazier, an empty booster box goes for over $500!
XY Evolutions Booster Box
This is more of a future-proof pack from Pokémon TCG. The Evolutions pack was one of the newer expansions released that featured EX variants of the original Pokémon.
A first edition set of this pack already retails for over $1000. But rest assured, the XY Evolutions pack will only continue to increase in value, and I predict it’ll be worth over a hundred grand in a few years! Don’t quote me on it though, it’s only a prediction!
Some of the card artwork is brilliant. If you can’t afford a full pack you can buy individual cards, as they are well worth having in your collection.
Hit the buttons below to check them out on Ebay or Amazon.
25th Celebrations Booster Packs
Although not technically too outrageously priced right now, I suspect that due to it’s limited print run we’re going to see the price curve explode exponentially in 5 – 10 years. These packs are well worth trying to get a hold of in the next year or so as this pack is perfect to buy as Pokemon Investment.
The 25th Celebrations Booster Packs already fetch around £10 / $10 each, I expect they’ll hit £100 / $100 or potentially even more, as I said, due to limited supply.
There are plenty available on Amazon and on Ebay, hit the links below to check the latest prices and add them to your collection.
1st Edition Base Booster Box
This is the ultimate collector’s dream. The pièce de résistance of Pokémon TCG booster packs. The first edition base booster box is the original set of Pokémon TCG that started the craze that is still prominent all these years later.
The original cards in one of these boxes all fetch hundreds or thousands of dollars. It’s quite impossible to visualize how important this Pokémon booster box is—both in value and as its place in Pokémon history.
This is currently, according to market prices, in the number one spot of the most expensive Pokemon booster packs. To give you an idea of just how priceless this pack is, a sealed first edition base booster box was auctioned for $384,000!
I have only seen one 1st Edition Booster Box for sale on Amazon, so you’ll probably not find one for sale there. But, there are always a bunch available on Ebay. Hit the buttons below to check.
Most of us can only hope of owning any one of these booster boxes. To be honest, some, if not all should belong in museums! Nonetheless, these are some of the rarest and most valuable booster boxes that Pokémon TCG ever released.
