Kingdom Hearts is about to get it’s first game released on the Nintendo Switch. Square Enix today has confirmed that a brand new game will be launching later this year for the Switch, PS4 and Xbox One. And, as you can probably tell, we’re really excited for this one.

A brand new title called Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is set to send Nintendo Switch and Kingdom Hears fans into overwhelming amounts of hype.

The game is said to be a rhythm action title featuring all of our well known and beloved characters that we’ve all gotten to know over the course of almost 20 years of the series.

Most Kingdom Hearts games are Japanese style RPGs. Melody of Memory is completley different to this however. Instead of being an epic RPG game, this one is all about about hitting button commands in time with the music.

The franchise has always had really great musical themes and epic soundtracks, so the series should be a good fit for this kind of game.

In the surprise announcement there are some details that we can get from it. It looks as if Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will feature around 140 songs and several fan favorite characters from the franchise. The characters include Sora, Donald, Goofy, Riku, Kairi, Hercules, Aladdin.

It also appears as if Kairi will be a playable character this time around, a first for the Kingdom Hearts series.

Depending on the stage, Disney characters will appear as guests and lend you their strength. The game features a massive catalog of over 140 songs, including music from the Kingdom Hearts series, Disney, and more. Enjoy rhythm-based action through unforgettable music.

There are four play modes including online battles.

If we take the the trailer at face value, players will need to guide your playable character along a linear path by hitting buttons in time with the background track. You’ll be able to run, jump and attack your enemies as you make your way through the game in time to the beat.

Kingdom Hearts Melody Of Memory Release Date

The last Kingdom Hearts game that came out was Kingdom Hearts III released all the way back in January 2019 on the PS4 and Xbox One. I for one, was really disapointed we haven’t had any of the classics ported over to the Switch yet.

KH 3 became a fan favourite and a bit of a hit. I went onto sell (according to online reports) over 5 million copies in a little over 14 days! That’s a crazy amount.

Melody of Memory’s story looks to be a kind of sequel to KH 3. The trailer gives away certain clues. It seems as if you are sifting through Sora’s past and exploring Sora’s memories. We’ve seen a similar game mechanic before with Chain of Memories.
