Keychron K2 Mechanical Keyboard for Professionals & Gamers

Mechanical keyboards are the choice of both professionals and hardcore gamer types. This is mainly due to their high quality feel and greater degree of accuracy.

The Keychron K2 Mechanical RGB is no exception to the above. Designed from the ground up by Keychron, it’s an exceptional keyboard that managed to grab headlines for being the most funded keyboard in Kickstarter history. It raised over $1,000,000 with over 11,000 backers. I’m willing to bet that the backers are either gamers or pro typists.

It’s easy to see why. Gamers love the RGB backlighting and the purists love the tactile feedback and audible click you get with a real solid mechanical keyboard. The K2 ticks both of those boxes.

The Keychron K2 keyboard is fantastic for gamers, typists or general use.

Who Are Keychron? The best minimalist mechanical keyboards on the market

The company was formed in 2017 by a group of self confessed keyboard enthusiasts. Between the team members they have nearly 20 years experience in the Keyboard industry. Their mission is simple, they’ve dedicated themselves to creating the best minimalist mechanical keyboards on the market. I think they may have already succeeded.

Fantastic Build Quality of the Keychron K2

I love quality. The sheer joy of buying something that feels like such a premium product is something not to be sniffed at. The Keychron K2 is an absolute thing of beauty. The quality of it has to be seen and felt to be believed. Try and twist the keyboard if you don’t believe us, there’s no flex whatsoever. It doesn’t feel cheap and it doesn’t type like a cheap £10 keyboard either.

Mechanical Keyboard For Typing Pro’s

When it comes to finding the best performing keyboard for typing, mechanical keyboards are amazingly responsive as well as highly accurate. The best keyboards also have a whole host useful features, such as long battery life (for wireless keyboards) and n-key rollover so that each keypress is correctly detected.

Keyboard Speed Typing Test

I performed a speed test and compared two keyboards. I chose the Corsair K55 RGB as my control keyboard. I was able to achieve 60 words per minute with a 95% accuracy. The Corsair K55 RGB is no slouch! Was I able to beat that score with the K2?

Using the K55 RGB I was able to get 60 words per minute with an accuracy score of 95% in a typing test.

When I switched to the Keychron K2 my speed increased as did my accuracy. I was able to achieve 72 words per minute and a 97% accuracy score! It really is a great keyboard for typing pro’s.

It’s also important to note that I did my typing test on the K2 using the ANSI/USA layout. The ISO/UK layout is scheduled for launch for the UK market Mid Jan 2020.

The Best Mechanical Keyboards For Programming and Coding

In the past few years, mechanical keyboards have become increasingly popular among PC gamers and typists who want a particular feel when using their machines. They are also perfect for software developers who want a particular feel and accuracy when writing code.

Just before KeyboardCo loaned me this keyboard I’d already written an article discussing the best keyboards for software development. It’s well worth a read and I’ve now added the Keychron K2 to that list.

The Keychron K2 comes with Windows and Mac specific keycaps.

What makes this Keyboard ideal for coding is that it can be used on a variety of devices.

A Lot of developers I know use the Macbook Pro for their front end dev work. I prefer to use a Windows PC for development work. I tested on a Windows 10 machine and a Mac Mini 2017. It connects seamlessly via bluetooth or the included cable.

Overall Scores: (Scores out of 10)

Also, as I’m feeling generous yet fair. The Keyboard should also get a bonus for the amazing battery life and connectivity attributes.
