I’ve reviewed a bunch of different chargers over the years. After all of this time, the main points still ring true; it has to be simple, safe and high quality.
A lot of cheap tat, as I like to call it, makes it’s way onto the market. These cheap wall chargers are not only rubbish quality, but they’re pretty dangerous too. I’d never buy a PD Charger that doesn’t have either a British or European safety stamp.
The JOBY PD Wall Charger is not only safe, but it’s built with incredible quality and that’s what we’ll be covering in this review.
JOBY PD Wall Charger Review
In terms of my first impressions, I absolutely love the branded box. I’d recently finished writing a review of the Wavo Boom Arm and the packaging across products is consistent, which I really, really like.
The box has a flip open door, with a plastic see-through window. I like this type of product box, as it allows the consumer to see what they’re buying before they actually part with their hard earned cash.
But, the reality is, they can get rid of the plastic window, as it’s not really needed anymore. Most tech is bought online, consumers have already seen the product via photos. Get rid of the plastic window and save a bit of single use plastic packaging.
The only other plastic reduction improvement they could make is to swap out the tray insert for a cardboard one.
Overall my first impressions are great. Let’s take a look at the quality of the actual charger now.
Build Quality
This charger features the CE safety marking and comes with a JOBY 2 year warranty, which gives you great piece of mind that it won’t just stop working right away.
This particular chargers USP is that you can chop-and-change between UK, US and EU plug adapters. This means you’ll only ever need this one for all of your home and travel needs.
It’s got a 12w USB-A output and a USB-C fast charge 30wtt output. But, it can output up to 42w for fast charge capable devices.
The most notable thing about this device is that it simply feels solid. Each individual component fits together neatly and there are no gaps around the individual parts. You’ll also not find any poor finished edges either.
I also really like that the input port edges are super tough, which means, over time you won’t notice any degradation of the plastic. It should remain looking brand new for a long long time.
3 IN 1 Charge & Sync Cable
The PR company that sent over the charger also sent over a JOBY cable. It’s a super convenient, well made cable which has a micro-USB, lightning cable and USB-C cable, in one!
It’s made with really a really strong, braided material and the input’s themselves, are solid. I can’t describe how happy I was when I noticed that the ‘neck’ of the cable ends have been re-inforced. I feel like the Apple cables fail at the ‘neck’ far too quickly.
I’m glad JOBY have sorted that out and it’s a match made in heaven, so grab the PD Charger and the JOBY 3-IN-1 cable together.
It’s 1.2 meters long, which is the perfect length of cable to have plugged into your PC or into a wall socket and still be able to have it next to you whilst working, or sleeping.
The cable also has the coveted ‘made for iPhone, iPad and iPod’ logo.
