Best Nintendo Switch Games for Kids – Keep the boredom at bay
The next step is choosing the right games so they can jump right into the fun and experience the best that the system has to offer.
At the time of writing this article there are currently over two thousand Nintendo Switch games available today which means it can be a headache to make a decision on which to buy.
To make things easier for you, we put together this list of the best Nintendo Switch games for kids so you don’t have to dig through the wide range that’s available.
If you’re looking for a puzzle game that kids are going to love, look no further than Snipperclips Plus. Players work together to find solutions to the puzzles based on shapes and physics, controlling characters which can be snipped into shape. This really gets kids using their brains but in a way that they find fun at the same time. Although the original Snipperclips game is great, Snipperclips Plus is the later-released expanded version which we highly recommend.
The entertaining gameplay keeps kids on their feet and teaches them cooperation at the same time. However, you should keep in mind that Snipperclips Plus is aimed for slightly older kids and the puzzles might be a bit too difficult for the little ones.
Minecraft has taken the world by storm and the Nintendo Switch is no exception. Kids love to express their creativity and there’s no better way than an open world to start an adventure in. Thrown into a 3D block world, players are free to explore, build structures, craft tools, mine resources, fight enemies and much, much more.
Perhaps the most exciting feature for kids would be the ability to build whatever structure they can imagine. Not to mention the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft even comes with Super Mario themed skins. As one of the all-round best Nintendo switch games for kids, Minecraft would be an excellent addition to any child’s Nintendo Switch library.
You might think it wouldn’t be responsible to allow kids to play a shooter game, but that’s where Splatoon 2 comes in. During both single player campaign and online team modes, players shoot ink at each other instead of bullets with a completely family friendly experience. Kids will love using their energy up in the high octane shooter gameplay that offers a high level of immersion.
If you do play Splatoon 2, you can even create your own avatar for use on social media profiles. Perfect if you want to keep your child safe, use a Splatoon avatar instead of their real photo!
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
To some kids, there’s nothing more fun than racing their friends to settle things once and for all, and what better game than one from the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the biggest Mario Kart game yet with a wide range of interesting characters, fun race tracks and special abilities. Every race is different and the fun is endless.
This one is also great for family gaming nights as people of all ages tend to enjoy the Mario Kart series of games and you can play with up to four people on one TV screen. Kids can interact with others online safely due to Nintendo’s communication system that limits messages to a set of predefined quotes, and kids can even take advantage of a beginner mode that helps them keep their kart on the road.
Cooking has never been so much fun in this high energy cooperative game. The unique, fast paced gameplay has players work together to prepare meals for a restaurant on a strict time schedule, resulting in action packed gameplay that’s perfect for kids. Although the game might sound boring, it gets extremely interesting when players find themselves scrambling to do everything at once and relationships are tested.
Overcooked is easy to learn but difficult to master, which is perfect to give kids a challenge. Bound to provide laughs and entertainment for hours upon hours, it’s definitely one of the best Nintendo Switch games for kids that’s available today.
LEGO City Undercover – Nintendo Switch Games For Kids
LEGO games are renowned for their high quality and engaging storylines, and LEGO City Undercover continues the trend enthusiastically. Set in a world made entirely of LEGO, players control an undercover policeman as they chase criminals on foot and in vehicles.
If you’re looking for the Grand Theft Auto equivalent that’s safe for kids, then LEGO City Undercover is the game you’re after. It’s the same concept except kids will be playing as the law rather than the law breakers – perfect! In both single player and multiplayer modes, kids of all ages can enjoy the game with the extra bonus of it being able to relate it to the real life LEGO blocks.
Super Mario Odyssey
Mario games have been entertaining kids for decades. Nintendo’s magic formula results in a 3D adventure that any child will find themselves hooked on. The game offers both a single player and a multiplayer mode where one player controls Mario’s hat as the second player takes control of Mario himself.
Kids will find the game both challenging and rewarding as they work to rescue Princess Peach from her kidnapper, Bowser. Plus, kids of all ages can enjoy Super Mario Odyssey, with younger children enjoying their progression through the levels and older kids able to take up the challenge of collecting all the Power Moons hidden in the game.
So, as you can see from our list of the best Nintendo switch games for kids, the console has a wide range of fantastic games on offer in every genre. Kids can get the most out of their Nintendo Switch experience with these games and no matter which ones you choose, you can’t go wrong.
MathLand is a great Switch Game for Kids! Adults too. It’s an action-adventure game based around all things Maths. The great thing about it is that it adapts the difficulty level depending on your child’s age.
Your kids will need to recover the gems that have gone missing. But to do that they’ll need to complete some maths challenges. Along the way they’ll learn all of the basic math operators. Adding, Subtracting, Dividing etc.
We love this game and gave it a 9/10 in our recent review. It’s well worth picking up a copy to keep your child educated and entertained.
