Have you been thinking about using a custom pattern for your Animal Crossing game? Well, now you can with an awesome online tool called Animal Crossing Pattern Maker.

Custom designs are the epitome of showing off in Animal Crossing. This amazing website let’s you upload your own image. It’ll then convert it into an Animal Crossing: New Horizons custom design.

We tried it using the codewithmike logo. It’s really difficult to see on a computer screen or your phone because of the resolution. But once you add it to the game, it’ll look like you expect it too.

Animal Crossing Pattern Maker

The Animal Crossing Pattern Maker was created by a team of three developers.

There was lot of reverse-engineering of the pattern format required to get the tool to work. As well as a lot of work on the core drawing system, image conversion, 3D renders, QR image generation and the pattern database back-end. Thulinma was responsible for this work.

DamSenVie was responsible for most of the graphics. JavesScript and toolchain setup.

Myumi handled the QR code reading improvements, some of the graphic design and making sure that the practical implementation of design went perfectly.

So, how does it work?

Upload your image and it’s an almost instant process that will give you a QR code. Then, you’ll need to then use the Nintendo Switch Online app on your smart phone or tablet.

Once you’ve done that you’ll need to turn on NookLink. To do this you can go into the main menu of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Another thing to note is that before you can scan the QR codes with your phone make sure you have the Custom Pro designer unlocked.

The instructions can be found on the website but they are here aswell:

“Click a color on the 3×5 palette and then just “draw” on one of the pattern representations. All of the zoom levels are drawable and they will all update at the same time.

When you want to import to ACNL, simply scan the QR code at the bottom using the QR machine at the Able Sisters in-game. Don’t have the QR machine yet?

Talk to the quiet sister in the back for 10 days in a row to unlock it. The download ACNL file button lets you save the pattern to your computer for later use. You can also upload ACNL files or images containing QR codes.

Not all images will always scan correctly since QR code reading is somewhat of an iffy thing, but we’re always working on improving accuracy.”

Draw Your Own Pixel Art

If you don’t want to have the hassle of uploading and converting images, you can also just draw your own pixel art. It works exactly the same way as it does in the game.

The tool has a library of creations that other people have created if you are feel super lazy and don’t want to draw something yourself. I have to say, the drawings people have done are really impressive.

Pixel art is a real skill!
